Amazon to boost Machine Learning programs using its cloud service.

Amazon says its goal is to accelerate the development of innovative algorithms, publications, and source code for Machine Learning applications.

The AWS Machine Learning Research Awards program will fund university departments, faculty, Ph.D. students and post-docs that are conducting research in machine learning. Projects can apply to obtain cash gifts and credits from Amazon Web Services (AWS).

Amazon says its goal is to accelerate the development of innovative algorithms, publications, and source code for Machine Learning applications. Research areas of interest include computer vision, robotics, life sciences, language, speech, problem-solving, reasoning, and decision-making. Also, this effort intends to raise awareness about Amazon’s ML infrastructure and web services in the academic community.

Amazon will provide winners with training resources, such as tutorials on how to run ML on their web services and hands-on sessions and mentorship with Amazon scientists and engineers. Furthermore, winners will attend an annual research seminar at Amazon’s headquarters in Seattle.

Amazon to boost Machine Learning programs

AWS offers a powerful infrastructure for award-winning projects. In one hand, EC2 P3 instance –powered by NVIDIA Tesla V100 GPUs– is ideal for computationally advanced workloads. In the other, the Deep Learning Ami tools equip users with the infrastructure to accelerate work in deep learning and in the cloud.

For this program, Amazon is teaming up with Carnegie Mellon University, California Institute of Technology (Caltech), Harvard Medical School, The University of Washington, and the University of California, Berkeley.
